Physical Education at The Meadows

We study Physical Education at The Meadows because it inspires pupils to succeed and excel in both competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities.

Curriculum

Physical activity not only improves health, reduces stress and improves concentration, but also promotes correct physical growth and development. Exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and interaction with others. Therefore, both teachers and children should be aware of its importance.

Team Meadows!

We are so proud of the achievements of #TeamMeadows!

Staff, children and parents have worked so hard together to promote positive attitudes, determination and a desire to succeed. Children enjoy practising skills during sports and PE sessions, and enriching these further during after-school clubs.

We are very proud of our children's sporting achievements. Football, hockey and netball teams compete regularly and we celebrate their accomplishments during celebration assemblies each Friday. Children are also encouraged to bring their out-of-school trophies, awards and certificates into school to share on these occasions.

Achievements

We are very proud of all our teams and clubs. We have recently participated in the following:

  • 2023 and 2024 Utilita Cup (Boys' Football) 2nd place 2024
  • Utilita Cup (Girls' Football)
  • Triathlon Event 2023
  • Regional Cricket competition
  • Cross country in 2023
  • Mini Olympics in 2023

Swimming and Water Skills

Swimming is taught in Years 5 and 6. Kayaking in Year 5 and paddle-boarding in Year 6 provide further exciting opportunities for children to gain confidence in the water.

By the end of Year 6, The National Curriculum requires children to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively - for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

Summer 2024: 88% of the cohort met these requirements.

Summer 2025: 93% of the cohort met these requirements. 100% of children were able to swim at least 10 metres unaided.
