We love to be creative!
Art enables us to express our creativity. We learn about how art and design both reflect and shape our history and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our world.
Artsmark
Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools and education settings, and it is accredited by Arts Council England. At The Meadows, we share a commitment to cultural education and pursuing this award enables us to celebrate arts, culture and creativity across our whole curriculum. We are proud to have achieved Artsmark Silver!
Creative Development
Children study a range of artistic styles and artists They focus on developing ideas, responding to art, drawing, painting, 3D, texture and pattern and art through technology. Knowledge is taught in a sequenced progression so that children are able to make connections in their learning and build on previous success.
The use of sketchbooks helps children to gather ideas, practise techniques and express their own creativity.
Our Plans
Art and Design provides the context for our learning during the summer 'Create' term: 'Explore'. You can view samples of our plans for this term below. For the rest of the year, art is taught alongside other currciulum subjects, and links are made between them. Key knowledge, including vocabulary taught at each stage, can be found on the knowledge organisers.
Design and Technology at The Meadows
Design and Technology inspires us to become designers of the future and to learn how to be risk takers, resourceful, innovative and enterprising.
Our Curriculum
Here at the Meadows, we aim to encourage the natural curiosity and inquisitive nature of our children in all our Design and Technology study. Our focus is placed on researching and exploring existing products, designing for a purpose and learning the practical skills to harness success in our making processes. Children are also given the opportunity to reflect upon their work, and are encouraged to consider both their achievements and aspects of their work that they would like to improve.
Our Autumn study sees us build upon prior learning. We link our product outcome and purpose to our history topic to enhance our learning opportunities in our “Discover Term”.

Early Years
Our Early Years team integrate fundamental Design and Technology skills through free flow learning and provision based on the learning themes. The children have the opportunity to explore and ask questions to spark curiosity and capture their imagination and creativity. Their learning is modelled and scaffolded appropriately to extend learning opportunities. Design and Technology begins during exploration and play, and is therefore more fluid as it follows the needs and interests of the children.
